The Harlan Tourism Commission invites you to
discover the rich mountain heritage of Kentucky,
 America's first frontier.

Harlan is the kind of town where people greet each other on the street; a place where visitors are welcomed with open arms and broad smiles.

Harlan is a special place, a magical mountain kingdom, where the four seasons dazzle the senses of those who call it home or delight those who are here for only a short visit. It’s the type of place where mountain memories are made and cherished for a lifetime.

Harlan is the bustling county seat of Harlan County, one of the oldest and most colorful of Kentucky’s 120 counties. The area is rich in mountain traditions, and home to some of the most abundant coal deposits in the world. Homage is paid to the coal industry at the Kentucky Coal Mining Museum in nearby Benham.

Come to Harlan and stroll amidst the beauty of Kingdom Come State Park, Pine Mountain or majestic Black Mountain, the highest peak in Kentucky. Hike through Blanton Forest, a pristine jewel of an old-growth forest or trek across the rolling acreage surrounding quaint Pine Mountain Settlement School.

Whether your interests lie in history, crafts, the coal industry or you just want to get away from the pressures of life, why not make Harlan your destination.

Visit Harlan and create a mountain memory.
